LAYING OFF DROUGHT courtesy of red cross, photo . The earth’s land surface is composed of 30 percent area under forest cover. The growth of forests allows trees to take in carbon from the air and store it in plant roots, trunks, leaves and in the soil. Clearing out of these rare assets by deforestation releases out carbon dioxide into the atmosphere contributing to climate change. This in turn causes global warming and creates non-conducive weather conditions such as drought, floods and storms. Red cross photo The solution to solve these harsh climatic conditions is reforestation and the natural regeneration of forest ecosystems. Reforestation is the process of replanting forest areas destroyed. Planting back of trees will bring more rain, boost soil fertility, reduce soil erosion, prevent global warming and improve air circulation. This is clearly the mystery to save Kenya in the middle of the drought crisis we are facing. This method will reduce the impa...
